Dr Nirmal Kishnani, Jury Chair for this year’s panel, commended,
“We saw a strong interest in materiality and climate as elements that give rise to an architecture rooted in ‘place’ with lower environmental impact. Could ‘impact’ have been clearer? Yes. Architects are perhaps uncomfortable assigning numbers to their work and so the jury is left with statements of intent and images from which to infer outcomes. We hope that next year, qualitative and quantitative outcomes will be equally explicit.”

The winners and merit recipients will be officially announced and awarded at the BCI Asia Awards 2018, a gala event that honours the region’s top architects and building professionals held in seven Asian countries: Hong Kong SAR, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
