Silver has long been recognised for its antimicrobial properties and has been used for centuries to aid the healing process and control infections. The earliest record of its use was by the Romans who stored their wine in silver urns to prevent spoilage. As a natural occurring antimicrobial with no known toxicity to humans, silver is used today to inhibit the growth of bacteria in healthcare equipment.
As part of its commitment to innovation, Sika has developed a new hygienic coatings range incorporating Silver Ion Technology called Sikagard Hygienic Coatings. Sikagard Hygienic Coatings with Silver Ion Technology work by inhibiting the reproduction of the microbe by breaking through the cell wall; disrupting the respiration of the microbe; and attaching to the DNA of the microbe to stop cell replication. This new Silver Ion range is backed by Sika’s extensive experience and dedicated microbiological expertise in the hygiene field in different kinds of industries such as pharmaceutical, hospitals or medical engineering, food and beverage, etc.
Sikagard Hygienic Coatings with Silver Ion Technology start the biocidal action as soon as the microorganism lands on the surface and prevent the growth of bacteria, mould (fungi) and yeasts for at least 10 years. Sika’s hygienic coatings with Silver Ion Technology have undergone successful independent efficacy testing against a range of micro-organisms; extensive microbiological testing has also been performed against a variety of infectious gram positive and gram negative bacteria including aerobic and anaerobic varieties.
Environmentally friendly, rapid drying and easy application
Sikagard Hygienic Coatings with Silver Ion Technology are water-based coatings designed to enable premises to be occupied as soon as possible after application. It is fast drying and develops its strength and other key physical properties extremely quickly, ensuring that working routines resume with minimal disruption. Application is simple and easy by brush, roller or airless spray.
Maximum long-term protection and durability
Sikagard Hygienic Coatings with Silver Ion Technology remain effective against the growth of microorganisms throughout the lifespan of the coating and will not leach out when subject to intensive cleaning such as steam cleaning or the use of chemical agents. They are hard wearing, chemical resistant and perform well. The durability of these hygienic coatings helps to extend the maintenance cycle and provide life cycle cost savings.
Wide range of colours
